I can’t say it enough, make your photography session feel like you! Don’t be afraid to share your ideas with me.
There’s a lot that goes into planning engagement or couple’s photos. I can understand the pressure you might feel to plan, but the key ingredient that’ll bring those pictures to life is whatever makes you … you!
This beautiful couple, Christina and Akash, were down for anything. I loved the simple but elegant wardrobe choices. It all went together so well. The contrast of the San Francisco sky line, the pier and the stunning sunrise.
In this blog post, I really want to encourage you to be inspired to think outside the box when planning your photo session and, of course, enjoy checking out this beautiful couple.
Choosing outfits for Monterey Engagement Photos
I love helping clients style their Engagement photos. These photos were taken at CC Summit lead by Sarah Peterson Photo, but the couple chose their own wardrobe.
When it comes to choosing what to wear, the number one thing is closing something that you are comfortable and feel beautiful in. When you’re comfortable during your photoshoot, it’ll show in your final images. You’ll have to trust me on that one.
The second consideration should be to make sure the wardrobe choice is in harmony with the surroundings and the vibe of the photo session. For example, an outfit you’d choose to wear on the cliffs on Big Sur will probably be a bit different from the outfit I’d recommend for a casual city streets session.
Where to take your Engagement Photos
I often encourage my clients to just scroll through my portfolio on social media to see which images speak to them most. What is it about the Monterey Engagement Photos locations that draws you in? Once I know what you like, we can make a plan and maybe even a back up plan for where to photograph your engagement photos.
I am lucky in that I have clients that trust me on choosing the right location for their desires and vision. Sometimes the final decision for where to take Monterey engagement photos comes down to checking the tide, wind and general weather forecast.
Finally, I am very into the idea of taking photos somewhere that is sentimental to you as a couple. If there’s really not any place like that for you, no worries. It can be super fun to do something outside the box. We can visit an Arcade, explore Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk or just walk around Cannery Row in Monterey.
Not sure what vibe to choose for your engagement?
Not able to commit to one location and outfit? That’s what Adventure Sessions are for. These are at least two hours long, but can be as long as we need. Here’s some ideas for your engagement photos:
- Do you enjoy a particular sport, hobby or activity together? Let’s do a session with your skateboard, on a pickle ball court, doing yoga, playing in the pool or the ocean, kayaking. Let me know!
- Love food? How about we have a picnic with your favorite charcuterie items, or donuts, or cake or pizza, or tacos!
- Feeling a certain vibe? We can start having a casual stroll at Cannery row and finish in a dramatic outfit at the beach at sunset.
- Exploring San Fransisco? We can head to the San Fransisco Pier at sunrise, continue on exploring the coffee shops in the area or heading shopping.
If any of these sound fun to you, or you have your own ideas, please reach out! Feel free to check out this fun session at one of the most beautiful beaches in Big Sur!
